Homer Shatto, who married Bertha Hoskins, owner of the Buckeye on New Street, was a painter who had worked in Florida. Inspired by the architecture there, Homer designed and built a six-unit motel on New Street, just north of the Buckeye.
The design is that of a ship’s pilothouse.
The building is still used for guest lodging, but there are but three units in it, one on each floor, including the basement.
