H.B. Perrin was a GOTL resident who raised parakeets. In 1954, Mr. Perrin donated a live parakeet to every child in Ashtabula County who had been afflicted by polio.
The birds were to be pets, as well as to give the children inspiration to live and care for another living thing.
Mr. Perrin had 87 pairs of rare parakeets and 50 pair of ordinary ones, a total of 360 parakeets including babies.
All of his birds had names and he knew each one by sight.
He lived at Palmetto Lake.
