One of the early attractions at the resort was a dance hall on Sturgeon Point (Mapleton Beach), where Cullen Spencer and Edwin Pratt first opened land to picnicking in 1896.
The dance hall was eventually closed and dismantled. Half of it went into building the Ford cottage, the other half the Shelley, both at Mapleton Beach.
